Plant extract Anthocyanins
Anthocyanins is a polyphenol belonging to the family of flavonoids, and are used as food and beverage colorant. They are present in blueberry, raspberry, blackcurrant, red radish, among others red, blue or purple vegetable and fruits. Anthocyanins have antioxidant properties, but their health benefits have not been proved as food additive.
The most significant extraction and recovery of anthocyanins are made from pulp wash liquid in citrus processing, red grape skin and blackcurrant extracts to color food in Europe.
Polymeric adsorbents have high loading capacities for the anthocyanins from these plant extracts and these compounds are recovered by selective elution using ethanol. For high concentration of anthocyanins, a merry-go-round systems will be proposed.
Several type of synthetic adsorbents offering different chemistry ( aromatic Styrene-DVB or Acrylic), pore size, specific surface area, hydrophobicity, polarity are available, and the final selection will result of laboratory adsorption/elution test.
Lenntech can assist for the selection by performing adsorption and elution test in our laboratory, or by supplying the best resin candidates for customers having their own lab and pilot equipments.
