How effective is chlorine dioxide?

The effectiveness of chlorine dioxide is at least as high as that of chlorine, although it is used in lower concentrations. But there are other important advantages:

  1. The effectiveness of the microbiocide is relatively constant at pH values between 4 and 10.
  2. Chlorine dioxide is superior to chlorine in inactivating spores, bacteria, viruses and other pathogens.

  3. The required contact time for ClO2 is lower.
  4. Chlorine dioxide has a higher solubility.
  5. There is no corrosion associated with high chlorine concentrations, which means that maintenance costs are reduced.
  6. Chlorine dioxide does not react with NH 3 or NH 4 + .
  7. It destroys THM precursors and increases the coagulation ability.
  8. ClO 2 destroys phenols and is odorless.
  9. It removes iron and magnesium compounds better than chlorine, especially with complex compounds.

How is it used?

Chlorine dioxide can be used in two different ways. The first possibility is to generate the chlorine dioxide on site using a special process. The second possibility is to order the chlorine dioxide in its stabilized form (SCD).

Whenever its use is desired, SCD is activated on site. It can be dosed into an existing or new process that requires a disinfectant.
This makes it an easy-to-use, safe and versatile disinfectant.
